Following the success of their first book, Recettes de Vie, which was published in 2008, celebrated authors Maissa Abou Adal Ghanem and Ghia Khayat Hawari have been encouraged by family and friends to continue the legacy that has touched the lives of so many and write the next chapter of their journey – Recettes de Vie 2.

Recettes de Vie 2 boasts a collection of more than 200 original recipes, every single one of them filled with passion and emotion, with friends and family sharing personal culinary secrets and top tips to make them truly unique.

“How often did we, as children, do our homework at the kitchen table, watching our mothers as they prepared another delicious chocolate cake? And how many times did we patiently wait for their permission to lick the mixing spoon? Today, it is our turn to prepare a meal, while our kids repeat their timetables or recite a poem. There is flour everywhere, the books are stained, laughter fills the room, but, ultimately, homework gets done and the meal is ready. Cooking is now fun for our children and the kitchen is the heart of our home, filled with the joys of life and experiences to be shared,” say Maissa Abou Adal Ghanem &Ghia Khayat Hawari, Recettes de Vie 2.

This is not just a literary venture, it’s also a humanitarian one. One hundred per cent of all profits will be going to select charitable organizations in the Middle East that support women and children. With the support of prominent sponsors and distributors, along with strong book sales, the first volume enabled them to donate more than US$100,000 to charity. They aim to double this amount with Recettes de Vie 2.

Recettes de Vie

The idea of Recettes de Vie (Recipes of Life) was born six years ago as something more than just a book. It reflects the values of sharing and giving, culminating into a unique collection of recipes that gives an unforgettable culinary journey filled with excitement from around the world. Blending the pleasures of food and reading together, this book is the cupid for family bonding. The reader of this book not only treats his taste buds to unique and tantalizing recipes, but also has a spiritual hand in giving back to the community through the book’s initiative of contributing 100% of the profits to worthy charitable organizations.

Philanthropist Support

Authors Maissa Abou Adal Ghanem and Ghia Khayat Hawari chose to support associations that focus on the rights of women and children. Indeed, society is witnessing poverty, violence and abuse against women and children on a daily basis. These women and children, who are exploited and abused, face extreme difficulties and require help and assistance.

“The areas we want to focus on are education and health of women and children in order to develop the stability of the community. We are convinced that the woman is the pillar of the family cell, and each woman who graduates from high school is twice as likely to send her own children to school and give them access to education. We are persuaded that if we invest in women and children (especially girls), we will improve family conditions that will have a positive impact on our society.

The NGOs that receive the charity proceeds from the book are located in the Levant and Gulf region. We focus on benefiting small associations that lack the means to effectively raise funds and for which even the smallest amount of money can make a real difference. We thoroughly study the projects of the NGOs that receive the charity funds.

Through this strong commitment and gesture of solidarity and with this product representing culinary pursuits and human emotions, we hope to help disadvantaged women and children by contributing towards their economic and social rehabilitation,” say Maissa Abou Adal Ghanem and Ghia Khayat Hawari.
